FOUR MEN ACCUSED OF BRINGING COCAINE EAST IN
FANCY CARS, RAPPERS RV
WHITE PLAINS - Four men have been arrested on drug charges after
allegedly carrying vast amounts of cocaine to the East Coast by
packing it into fancy cars and a rap singer's luxury tour bus,
where drugs and cash were hidden under her bed.
The singer, Gloria Velez, who has appeared in videos with rap
heavyweights such as Jay-Z, DMX and Ja Rule, has not been charged.
Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who announced
the arrest, would not comment Monday on whether Velez was
cooperating with prosecutors.
Pirro said 75 officers carried out search warrants over the past
few days and seized more than 200 pounds of cocaine, $800,000 in
cash and cars including a Hummer, a Mercedes-Benz, a Cadillac and
a Range Rover.
The cocaine and the cash - plus guns, money-counting machines and
a vacuum sealer for the drugs - were displayed for reporters after
a news conference in Pirro's office. Also on view were
hydraulic jacks used to uncover the trap under Velez's bed in her
recreational vehicle.
A special agent in charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration,
Anthony Placido, said that while the drugs and cash amounted to
significant seizures, he felt the major success of the
investigation was the cooperation among numerous police agencies -
his office, Pirro's investigators and the police departments of
Mount Vernon, Yonkers and White Plains.
Three men were arrested in the Bronx on Friday as they unloaded
cocaine from vehicles, Pirro said.
